Should I go on accutane?

Acne Doctors Chicago, Question by ??: Should I go on accutane? Acne Doctors Chicago

I am a 16 year old female that has been struggling with moderate acne for about a year. I had tried proactive and drugstore products but nothing really did the trick. After being recommended by my doctor to visit a dermatologist, I went to one. My dermatologist is one of the most prestigise dermatologist in Chicago. My first visit i was prescibed tetracycline 250mg 3 times a day. Also benzaderm and Rentina. i began to see some improvement over a month. I returned back yesterday to be told that i should go on accutane. I was completely shocked that i would even be a canidate for accutane. I had heard about it and mainly some bad things. So at first i didn't want it. Now that i think about how nice it would be to have amazing clear skin I am reconcidering. Depression has effected my mom, dad, and only sibling. The risks and side effects seem extreme and I'm not sure if i HATE my acne so much that i would go through with the blood test ( i have a fear of needles...) and such. Pl ease share whatever you can. Should I go for it? Should I look into alternate treatments?

My brother went on Accutane a few years ago, and he says it completely changed his life -- he went from having severe nodular acne to having completely clear skin in only a few months. However, keep in mind that Accutane can cause pretty serious side effects for some people. These include depression, suicidal thoughts, trouble sleeping, crying spells, sudden numbness or weakness, hallucinations, fever, chills, body aches, seizure, diarrhea, jaundice, blurred vision... the list goes on. For a lot of people, taking Accutane can end up being a curse, not a blessing. You have to keep this mind. If you really hate your acne, maybe you should try it. Who knows -- maybe you won't experience any bad side effects at all. Everyone is different. If you find yourself becoming depressed, nauseous, or experiencing any other adverse side effects, then you should definitely go off it.
